Weili Kang


Flutist

Performer/Recording Artist/Teacher

Weili Kang is a Los Angeles-based flutist. She is a passionate performer in many musical genres including solo, chamber, orchestra, band, jazz, pop, Broadway musicals, video games, and world music.

Growing up in both Taiwan and the USA, Weili’s musical experience has been influenced by the music of various cultures including Hakka cultures from Taiwan, aboriginal, Han, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, as well as various music genres and cultures from the United States. She received both her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Music focusing on flute performance at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). She has studied flute and piccolo with David Shostac, Gary Shocker, William Bennett, Sara Jackson, Jim Walker, and Heather Clark, among others. She also performs and teaches piano, ukulele, violin, clarinet, singing, etc.

She has performed in various groups including the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra, LA Wind Ensemble, Orange County Symphony Band, Beach City Symphony Orchestra, Jewish Symphony Orchestra, Palisades Symphony Orchestra, and South Bay Wind Ensemble. In addition to solo recitals in Taiwan, she has performed internationally (including the solo piece Jasmine) and in band tours to various cities in China. She has recorded video game music, old-time jazz albums, and music projects with various composers. She is currently the piccolo player at San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra and South Bay Wind Ensemble.

Weili is also an orchestra and band teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District. She is an active California Music Teacher Association member which allows her to assist her students who are preparing for the Certificate of Merit music level tests.

At her home studio in the South Bay area, she teaches private piano and flute lessons and once a year hosts a student recital which features her students’ musical performances.

Weili Kang is an active performer and educator and enjoys contributing her music to her community in Los Angeles and the South Bay.
